Yeah, we know reading Ts&Cs is boring, but there's some very important info in there. 

Come on, it'll only take a minute. 

The 40 Under 40 Exhibition & Art Prize is a group exhibition to be held in January 2024 at The Butter Factory Arts Centre. The aim of the exhibition is to promote and showcase to the community a diverse range of young and emerging artists (between the ages of 18-40) from the Noosa, Sunshine Coast and Gympie regions. Exhibition dates are the 12th of January to the 18th of February 2024.

Please Note: The artwork/s submitted in this entry form MUST be the artwork/s exhibited in the exhibition. 

Applications open on September 10th and must be submitted by October 15th 2023, 11:59pm AEST (Queensland time).

Eligible entries

  • Entrants must be between the ages of 18 and 40 years old. 

  • Local Eligibility: Artists must have an affiliation with the Noosa, Sunshine Coast and Gympie Regions with either;

    • 1. Currently residing in the region 

    • 2. Grew up or lived in the region for a significant time of their lives

    • 3. First Nations Person and Traditional Owner of the region, the Gubbi Gubbi and Jinibara peoples (you do not have had to have lived in the region for this affiliation).

  • One application only per artist.

  • Entries must be the original, unaided work of the entrant, executed within the 12 months prior to the entry closing date.

  • The artist warrants that the work is original and does not infringe the copyright, moral rights or other rights of any third party. 

  • All works entered must be available for display for the duration of the exhibition.

  • Artwork which has already been sold will not be eligible for inclusion and no further correspondence will be entered into.

  • Artist's may submit a maximum of 2 artworks for consideration by the Selection Panel, for smaller works.

  • 2D Work: The finished work must not exceed 200cm in either length or width. 

  • The work must be framed (a stretched canvas is considered framed) and fitted with D rings 10cm from the top of the work, unless discussed and agreed to with the Co-Curator – Jordan Neal. 

  • The Curator has the right to refuse works deemed not suitable for hanging.

  • 3D artworks must be free standing, have a stable base and be no heavier than 15 kg.

  • The curator and/or venues reserve the right not to install artworks deemed unsafe for public display and to use a selection process at their discretion if the total number of artworks exceeds venue capacity.

  • Submission of one artwork image is mandatory for each artwork. This image must be clear and unobstructed.

  • No work submitted shall have been exhibited in The 40 Under 40 in any previous year.

  • All expenses incurred in the submission of the entry are the responsibility of the applicant.

  • Selected Artists must arrange for delivery of their artwork to The Butter Factory Arts Centre and for collection of their works on conclusion of the exhibition, at their own expense.

Entries

  • All entries into The 40 Under 40 must be submitted online through the www.40-40.com.au website.

  • Please ensure you have submitted the correct information on your entry, no additional changes can be made after the submission has been completed.

  • A complete online submission means the upload of the following:

    • Artist contact details.

    • Entry fee of $30 - $40 (non-refundable) payable by credit card online.

    • One image file per artwork. Images must be jpeg format only (300dpi, 2MB). 

    • Each file name should be clearly labelled with to the following format:
      SURNAMEgivenname_ARTWORKTITLE_4040_2024

    • An Artist bio (maximum 200 words).

    • An image of the artist in the ratio of 1x1 (square), this will be used for promotional material if selected.

    • Applications open on September 10 and must be submitted by October 15th, 11:59pm AEST (Queensland time).

Pre-selection / Judging

All entries submitted will be presented for review to a pre-selection panel, from which 40 finalist works will be selected to exhibit in the 40 Under 40 Exhibition and Art Prize.

Once the pre-selection process has been completed, all entrants will be advised of the outcome. Successful Applicants will be announced October 31, 2023.

Each year independent judges are invited to select the winner of The Bentleys 40 Under 40 Exhibition and Art Prize, the Runner Up winner and the Highly Commended winners from the 40 selected Artists in the exhibition. 

The pre-selection panel and judge's decisions are final and no correspondence will be entered into.

 

Participation in The 40 Under 40 

The 40 finalists selected for The 40 Under 40 Exhibition and Art Prize will receive further details on participation in the exhibition.

The artworks will be exhibited in The 40 Under 40 Exhibition and Art Prize from 19th of January 2024 until 25th of February 2024 at The Butter Factory Arts Centre, 11 Maple Street Cooroy. 

​Selected Artists must arrange for delivery of their artwork to The Butter Factory Arts Centre and for collection of their works at the conclusion of the exhibition, at their own expense. Delivery of artwork/s must be during the designated time stipulated by The Butter Factory Arts Centre. Artwork/s that are not delivered during the stipulated time will be excluded from the Exhibition.  

​The Butter Factory Arts Centre agrees to take utmost care in handling and exhibiting all artwork(s), but shall not be responsible for any loss or damage howsoever caused.  It is the Artists/s responsibility to insure artwork(s) for loss or damage and to ensure they have appropriate Public Liability Insurance to cover their own activities.

The Butter Factory Arts Centre (not The 40 Under 40) will be paid a commission of 35 % of the Retail Price of the Artwork sale of the Artwork occurring during the period of the loan, however caused.

Commission (35%) = Retail price x 0.35
