The Bentleys 40 Under 40 Exhibition & Art Prize is a group exhibition to be held in January 2022 at The Butter Factory Arts Centre. The aim of the exhibition is to promote and showcase to the community a diverse range of young and emerging artists (between the ages of 18-40) from the Noosa, Sunshine Coast and Gympie regions.

The 40 Under 40 is in its third year and Amanda Bennetts, Noosa based Artist and curator created this project to bring together young professional and emerging artists in one exciting show. Bennetts came up with the idea after realising there were minimal opportunities for younger artists on the coast and admits that she also needed an excuse to meet all the cool young artists on the coast. Originally she considered the 30 Under 30 but realised at the time she would only have very few years left to participate so decided on the 40 Under 40 instead.

Amanda Bennetts is an Artist, Curator and Founder of the 40/40! For the past two 40/40s Amanda has been both an exhibiting Artist and Co-Curator.

As co-curator and selection panelist, Amanda is excited for the future of the 40/40 - as a project that will be passed down to some younger folk as she approaches the mid- late-thirties/40 end of the 40/40’s age bracket. She will enjoy her retirement playing golf and indulging in phrases such as “Well, I could’ve done that” @ Contemporary Art.

A recent creative industries graduate from USC, Clare is super passionate for anything arts. She sang at the first 40 Under 40 (way back in 2020!) and in 2021, stepped up to help coordinate sound and music for the event. As a published poet in ‘Madness in Bloom’ an anthology of USC writing students and a vocalist that you can find on Spotify (if you search hard enough), Clare hopes to continue contributing to the arts industry in whatever form she fancies. The opportunity to be on the organising side of the 40 Under 40, surrounded by the talented young local musicians and artists on the Coast is such an inspiring experience for the budding creative.

As the dynamic leader and Coordinator of the Butter Factory Arts Centre, Artist and Curator, Alicia Sharples has been involved with the 40 Under 40 from its humble beginnings. In 2019, Amanda, a first-year art student, came with the idea of creating the 40/40, and Alicia was excited to bring the ambitious exhibition to fruition at the Butter Factory. Alicia has been a guiding light in forging the foundations of the 40/40, co-curating, collaborating and mentoring Amanda throughout the process. The 40 Under 40 has seen Alicia mentor and collaborate with the younger Artists to help shape their creative careers, assisting many artists in having solo exhibitions at the Butter Factory.
