Jack Staley lives and works in Noosa Heads, his primary working material is clay, creating abstract ceramic sculptures. He has studied from local ceramicist and is continuing in self taught progress, predominately working with mixing traditional ceramic techniques and tweaking them to give the object a life of its own.
His process of creating these objects has been a therapeutic journey, allowing to tap into the subconscious and explore without limits, exaggerating imperfections of the form and exploring making new glazes lets the pieces give them an unusual beauty. Alien like, Staley reflects on these biomorphic shapes from personal experiences.
He recently has been a finalist in the biennial north Queensland ceramic awards for 2020, and is continuing his practice to work on future exhibitions.
